Places to Go

There are days when I feel just about blogged out. Too many of my blog friends have abandoned their blogs, much to my dismay, or blog far less frequently. I, too,  have gone from an every weekday blog to about three a week and am often tempted to just let it go. However, this blog community is my social community and has been for the past two years. Perhaps that makes me a good candidate for professional counseling … I don’t know. I do know that you mean a great deal to me.

So just when I’m tempted to give it up, another blog comes along that makes me glad I “found” it. One such blog is from a frequent reader / responder to my blog, Janice Garrison. You can find her here or just click on the link sidebar of my blog. She can write seriously or  hilariously and I will be checking out her offerings on a regular basis.

If you want to receive a very interesting weekly email, go here and read Rabbi Daniel Lapin then follow the link to subscribe to his email. His articles and biblical insights are nothing less than fascinating.

Finally, for many years I’ve taken Reflections, a weekly (usually) bible study from an elder / minister in New Mexico by the name of Al Maxey. What he writes is worth the time to read it. The responses from readers is usually worth a read as well. You can find his latest article here. Go down to the bottom of the article (past the responses) and there is a link to contact him to subscribe. His index of articles goes back several years and contains a wealth of bible studies. I’ve used him often as a resource for sermon preparation. Those legalistic pharisees who despise Al just make me appreciate him even more. He is also a Viet Nam vet, which makes him all the more special to me.

I read about 15 – 20 blogs on a regular basis, checking them daily. I am humbled that anyone checks mine on a regular basis but if you are one of those persons, please know that I sincerely appreciate you!

    that’s where I’m at :?

From a scientific point of view, and I’m no scientist but I know who Albert Einstein is, I believe there is a confluence of forces just along the hills in Riverside County that compels one to blog at least three times a week or most of the anatomical systems of carbon based life forms shut completely down.
Oops, I was also writing a response to a quantum mechanics blog considerably like yours and got a bit confused.
What I meant to say, with all due respect to various blogs that you mentioned, that your blog has a pleasantly pleasing balance of humor, seriousness, and stoogieness that bless us all and put us into a hypnotically peaceful state of mind. When you collate all of your blogs into your book, I will be happy to write an endorsement.
That’s all I have to say about that.
    Peace.

I thoroughly enjoy reading your blogs and look forward to what you might have to say. I am one of those that doesn’t blog on a frequent basis but sometimes I feel that I don’t have anything interesting to say. Besides, you and my family are pretty much the only ones that read it anyway. :)
    Please keep up the blogging.

I skim your blog feed on a regular basis… does that count? :-)

You are my favorite blogger! You have to keep going!

  6. on 25 Jun 2009 at 12:38 pmDee Andrews

Yes you DO have to keep going, Greg! I’m so sorry I’ve been a bit behind in commenting lately or reading most of my favorite blogs (with the exception of yours & Patrick’s), but as you know, I’ve just not felt well enough to “regularly indulge” for the past three months.

I’m particularly aggravated yesterday & today (and would appreciate any help you can give me with this, since you are a TheoBlogger) because I cannot upload and/or download pictures to my blog and desperately need help. One of your number is in Abilene this week and the other, who is much nearer you than me, is ??? I’m terribly frustrated with WordPress about this because it happened to me once before several months ago. I have some great new photos to post and cannot do so.

Now . . . having gotten that off my chest, thanks for the links. I’ve been reading Janice Garrison’s blog & she has been good about responding to mine, plus we keep up with each other on FaceBook. FaceBook is a much quicker, easier way for me these days to keep up with my blogging friends, etc, as I have not felt well enough to spend a whole lot of time here in front of the computer reading blogs. This week, I’m feeling better, but am way behind from being gone five days.

I suppose it never ends, does it?

Keep up you good work here and don’t give up on us. I’m going to stick with it and hope to be better back in action on the blog front really soon, both on my own & reading/commenting on others.

Finally . . . as to your Walmart post – I read it when you wrote it, but have not had time since to respond. I guess I am the sole person among us all who has had a really good Walmart experience this week. They just totally remodeled our really small one here and it is not only much nicer to visit, but this week on Tuesday, had very fresh produce, which delighted me. I have also made “good friends” with a couple of the check out girls and greeters. I always try to think of each of them and always talk with them because I know some of them (I can tell) are having a really difficult day and need encouragement.

Plus, I know they don’t make much money at all and wouldn’t be working there if they didn’t need the money so badly. So, I try my best to always be a “good customer” no matter what their attitudes and always speak cheerfully to them. You might try that next time with your local Walmart “Nazi” guy, Greg. Think how little he must have in his life to be in such a position as to need to act that way there.

And, I’m not saying I don’t get aggravated with sales people and customer service people. Yesterday afternoon I spoke with four – mind you FOUR – different dummy, ignorant, obnoxious DirecTV people on the phone (got cut off by one) before talking with one in Oklahoma who was charmingly pleasant despite my by-then nasty disposition/impatience.

Cheers & many blessings to you each today! Dee

Don’t stop I truly enjoy reading your blog

  8. on 25 Jun 2009 at 1:08 pmwallysdad

Greg, you are part of my morning ritual. Don’t stop the blog. I sometimes don’t comment because what I would say has already been said by other readers, but I find your (and their) insights to be fascinating. I also have enjoyed the links to other sites such as Patrick Mead’s, Randy’s and Terry Rush’s. Again, although I don’t comment I find the messages insightful and interesting, just as I do with you.

While I may only comment infrequently, I read regularly! I appreciate your humor and candor on the variety of life topics you blog about. While facebook is nice to keep up with various friends and read the snippets of their lives, it’s not blogging. There’s something very special about the topics that are explored more fully and the insightful comments of other bloggers and readers that is encouraging as we traverse this thing we call life! So, I say all this to simply say thank you for staying the course! Even if it’s only 3 times a week or even once a week, you have a perspective that must be shared! I’m certainly glad I stumbled onto your blog through my friend That Girl’s blog a couple of years ago!

Greg…PLEASE don’t stop blogging. I read your blog daily unless I have to be gone somewhere, but I always play ‘catch-up.’ You have a great way with words and I love reading your blog.

Now, about the very nice words from you about me. I am humbled and truly honored. I think you and Patrick Mead are SUPERSTARS of blog. :)

I am amazed at how many talented bloggers there are in the ‘community’, and it’s so wonderful to be making new friends in so many different states.
I have only been blogging since March and a few times I have seriously thought about quitting. It requires a lot of time and while I enjoy it immensely I was beginning to wonder if anyone else was reading my posts.

I’ve been very busy around the house today and have not spent much time on the computer. So when I went to my blog to post a couple of comments that came in, I noticed a few visitors from your blog had visited mine, so my curiosity was peaked and I clicked over to read your blog. You could have knocked me over with a feather!!

Dee and I are also ‘growing’ a wonderful friendship. She is a real trooper! Then yesterday Judy Poyner, who writes Meow-Mix also mentioned me in her blog. So I really am speechless, first her and now you. Judy, Dee and I also visit on FB. I also visit with John Dobbs, Trey Morgan, Brad Palmore and Steve Tucker. More great bloggers!!

Thank you again…my hat’s off to you!! There will be MANY sad people if you stop blogging….No pressure here :)

I read you all the time…

I’ll check in, too, Greg. I have been disappointed that you have cut down to 3 times a week. I like to read your blogs everyday. You shed a quirky light on life that is really uplifting and funny. I’ve written to you before about the similarities in our lives…just the major points, I’m sure. But, you have assured me, through your blogs, that there is life after the pulpit ministry….even a great one. I’ve tried to encourage you, too, about the same. Your blogs are certainly worth your readers time. I don’t write a blog, so I don’t know all the work that is involved. I hope that you will continue. Your words are nectar to our souls out here in blogland. God bless you and don’t stop blogging!!!

Greg … Janice has an excellent blog. And yours is still an everyday must-read. I may not always post a comment, but there’s never a day I don’t read.

The link to Al Maxey sends me to gmail. I don’t think that’s what you meant.

And I concur with everyone else here – I enjoy the variety of your postings. However, I do understand wanting not to do something for awhile.

[The link from my post is sending me to his article. The link at the bottom of his article does place you into gmail, but with his address so you just send a message and he will add you to his email.]

  15. on 26 Jun 2009 at 9:43 amDonna

When I am not in the mood to read blogs at all…..I still read yours. I have slowed some with the busy summer but hope to be back posting something of interest soon.

  16. on 26 Jun 2009 at 12:51 pmMeowmix

Since I’m reading this a day late, and I already know that you don’t plan to stop, I will stlll say what I would have said if I DIDN’T know that! :) As Donna said, I read your blog usually first. You are the consummate blogger. We need you. I’m glad you’ve found your way to Janice’s blog. I treasure the growing relationship with her. She was very encouraging to me when I was writing my “good folks” series, and I find what she writes to be insightful and uplifting. I love you, my friend. I wouldn’t trade you for a barrel of monkeys. :)

[If anyone ever offers you a barrel of monkeys for me, you should give serious consideration to the monkeys!]

You’re part of my daily routine, even if it is at midnight! I’ve missed your daily thoughts, but I do understand how “life” can get in the way of living the way we would wish. How else are we to keep up with you guys?

You’re a part of my daily routine, even if it is at midnight more often than not! I’ve missed your daily blogs, but I do understand how “life” can get in the way of living the way we would like…..and besides, how else are we going to keep up with you guys?
