There is a “back” way from our mortuary to our home that used to keep us out of the 5:00 traffic each afternoon. But the back way has become just about as crowded as the main route. Still I take it many days.
At one point, a two lane road divides into a turn lane and a lane going straight ahead. This is a recent traffic change that caused a bit of confusion with some drivers until they figured out you need to be in the right lane to go straight.
Only now more than a few drivers will stay in the turn lane and move over to the other lane at the last minute just to get ahead of the other drivers wanting to go straight. And, of course, they believe if they have a turn signal on, then they have the right of way and will cut you off in a heartbeat to get in front of you.
My natural inclination is to not let them but me off. Even to the point of riding the bumper of the car ahead of me. I know, it’s not the most mature response, and people out here have been shot for lesser traffic “crimes” against aggressive drivers. To me, it’s a matter of principle.
Only yesterday, when a driver in a red van had to slow down enough to slip in behind me, he saw on my back window a car decal: Chorus Church. Help. Hope. Home.
I wonder what he thought?
I wonder if I should remove the decal or become a more courteous driver?
Ditch the decal, you’re hopeless!
This article put this kind of experience in perspective. http://www.patheos.com/community/karenspearszacharias/2011/03/01/allegiances-we-dont-honor/

I think that the car decal might be just the right reminder that aside from the Lord, someone is always watching.
Steve, good article. Greg, pick up a bumper sticker from another church group and drive as angry as you want.
My wife’s license plate is “3John 4″
Even though that verse is totally unrelated to my driving habits (maybe), and no one in traffic knows what that verse says, they know it’s from the Bible. Makes be a better driver in her car than mine.
Maybe the driver of that red van should just learn to drive!! j/k
Greg – Any more, I’m always wanting to hit “like” on some of the comments or to respond to them individually, but your blog doesn’t have either of those capabilities. I think you seriously need to think about upgrading and/or making this blog more FB-like. Just a thought . . .
Your blog post today is the very reason we (I) refuse to put ANY kind of decals on our vehicles and/or vanity tag license plates! I don NOT want to be singled out in any way by the general public and/or police officers when driving. I try very hard to be a very careful driver and Tom does, too. He’s even more cautious than I am, I think, and I’m really cautious.
And, we certainly make a lot of comments to each other about other drivers. But, still . . . no need to make the natives restless and/or accusatory toward us and/or our preferred likes/dislikes as shown on advertising on our vehicles.
But, if you MUST have such decorations on your vehicle, I’m with Randy – put a sticker/decal on there that is opposite/alternate to what you advocate and then drive the way you want!!!

I’m gonna take the high road…………………….work on being a more courteous driver!
